Fieste de Patrie

For many years, the Istitût has organised the "Fieste de Patrie dal Friûl" in collaboration with the Provinces of Udine and Pordenone, the Region, Friulian diocese, the University of Udine and the Regional Scholastic Office.

Established over 30 years ago by don Francesco Placereani, this event celebrates the creation of the Friulian patriarchal state on 3 April, 1077. A singularly important date in Friulian history - according to historian Giancarlo Menis, author of Storia del Friuli (the History of Friuli) - as it marks the establishment of "a vast and compact territory subordinate to the feudal jurisdiction of the Patriarchy. In short, this was the foundation of that political-ecclesiastical principatus Italiae et Imperii which ratified a social reality already consolidated over the course of a long historical process, which would unite Friulians in continually progressing forms of civil life for three and a half centuries to come."

The highlight of the events takes place every year, rotating from town to town in the three provinces of Friuli.
